Made on Purpose
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.”
“I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well.”
“And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men.”
Somewhere along the way, many of us started treating purpose like a hidden password. If we could just figure it out, life would finally make sense. So we take the quizzes, compare ourselves to others, and quietly wonder if we missed our moment.
Ephesians offers a gentler starting point: "We are his workmanship." The word carries the idea of a crafted work, something made with intention. Before you ever did anything, you were made by Someone who meant to make you.
That changes the question. Instead of asking, "What am I supposed to do with my life?" we can begin with, "Who am I, and whose am I?" Purpose flows from identity, not the other way around.
And notice that the good works were "prepared before." You are not inventing your purpose from scratch. You are discovering and walking into what God has already been preparing. Often it is closer than you think: in the people you already love, the skills you already have, the burdens you already carry for others.
Purpose is rarely a single dramatic calling. More often it is faithfulness in ordinary places, repeated over years. The kind word to a coworker. The meal for a neighbor. The way you raise your kids or care for your parents. Heaven does not overlook these.
You were made on purpose, for a purpose. Start today right where you are.
Reflect
Where in your ordinary, everyday life might God already be inviting you to walk in purpose?
Pray
Creator God, thank You for making me with intention. Help me stop chasing a purpose I have to invent and start walking in the one You have prepared. Make me faithful in the small places today. Amen.
